I was about 13 when I first went to an MGR camp as a participant. I was already hiking by then, so I had some idea of what to expect, but I was especially eager for something new and real.
From the first days, it was the atmosphere that captivated me most. It was unlike home or school, a completely different world with new people, new surroundings and the feeling that everything worked differently here.
That was where I first understood that camp is more than a holiday. It meant hikes through cold rivers, kayaks and water activities, but also learning about routes, cartography and teamwork, and taking the first steps towards becoming a counsellor. That was when I realised that I wanted to remain part of it.
Six months after my first camp, I returned to another session in a different place as an assistant counsellor. I wanted not only to participate, but also to share experience, help others and learn to take responsibility for the children and the life of the camp. Gradually, it became part of who I am.
I still come to every camp with the same joy and anticipation. Camp has helped me become more confident and responsible and taught me to handle unexpected situations. The most important thing has not changed: for me, it remains a place I always want to return to.
